Successful workshop to start planning the pilot project for data interchange between Egyptian customs, express shipping companies and Egypt Post Authority

In an important step towards facilitating the movement of e -commerce and enhancing the efficiency of customs procedures, an intensive workshop was held to determine the requirements for the implementation of the data exchange project between Egyptian customs and express shipping companies and the Egyptian Post Authority.
And under the generous sponsorship of Mr. El-Shahat Gatouri, Commissionier of the Customs Authority, and in cooperation with the Trade Improvement and Export Development Project in Egypt Trade.
The workshop was held for five days in the governorates of Cairo and Alexandria, during the period from 11 to 15 August. 

This workshop aimed to identify the technical and human needs necessary to activate an integrated project that contributes to:

• Speeding up customs clearance procedures: through electronic data exchange between customs and postal companies before the arrival of shipments.

• Improving risk management: through the application of an advanced risk management system to detect suspicious shipments.

  •  Raise the efficiency of the services provided: for customers by providing a chain and transparent electronic experience.
    The workshop has resulted in identifying a set of major needs and requirements, which include developing an integrated information system, providing the necessary infrastructure, and training human cabiblities to use the new system.
    The Customs Authority is keen to keep pace with technological developments and simplify customs procedures, which contributes to stimulating trade movement and increasing the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy.
    This project is expected to contribute to:
  • • Increasing the volume of trade by facilitating the procedures for importing and exporting products via the Internet.
  • • Attracting foreign investments: by providing an attractive investment environment.
