Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, in his meeting with El-Shahat Ghatouri, Commmissionier of the Customs Authority, reviewed the executive position of the “Facilitating the Importation of Cars for Egyptians Abroad” initiative, which a law was issued to extend for 3 months, as the electronic application began receiving requests from those wishing to do so since yesterday, Monday, directing work to speed up the issuance procedures “Import approvals” for cars of Egyptians abroad; in a way that contributes to ensuring the facilitation of customs release, taking into account the continuation of the permanent committee at the customs ports concerned with overcoming any obstacles in this regard.

The minister stressed the importance of maximizing communication efforts with citizens abroad wishing to benefit from the initiative, and receiving their inquiries and answering them immediately, so that the international hotline, which is launched for the first time, is an effective tool in this regard, through which specialists respond to questions with clear answers explaining the steps to overcome any challenges that Egyptians abroad may face. 

The Minister pointed out the need to clarify that the reduced customs tax is valid throughout the five-year “import approval” validity period, and that Egyptians abroad may choose any car and replace it at any time within 5 years, as work continues to evaluate cars and determine the amounts due that must be transferred throughout the five years whereras “Car lists” are updated according to the year of manufacture in January of each year, and the lesson is that the year of manufacture is what matters in determining the amounts required to be transferred in the bank deposit to the account of the Ministry of Finance at the National Bank of Egypt. 
 
He added that the deposits of Egyptians abroad are paid from the initiative to facilitate the import of cars, at the scheduled dates at the exchange rate at the time of their entitlement; as "an commitment to the public treasury", and whoever wants to withdraw the amounts transferred from his account, for the benefit of the Ministry of Finance, and leaving the initiative after a year has passed from the date of import approval, he applies to the electronic platform, and will receive it at the exchange rate at the time of recovery within 3 months, pointing out that there is a "maturity bond" from the Ministry of Finance, on the public treasury of citizens residing abroad, at the value of the amounts transferred to the Ministry of Finance in the National Bank of Egypt.

El-Shahat Ghatwary, commisssionier of the Customs Authority, said that the international hotline No. 15460 has been allocated to respond immediately to inquiries from Egyptians abroad, and to double the specialized staff to work around the day, including vacations and official holidays, in a way that ensures the speed of customs release procedures.
