El-Shahat Ghatwary, commissionier of the Customs Authority, said that the law to extend the initiative to "facilitate the import of cars for  Egyptian abroad" came into force as of October 30, 2023 and for a period of three months ending on January 30, 2024, as the initiative's electronic application began receiving registration applications through easy steps by opening an electronic account on the digital platform, registering data and uploading documents, and applicants are automatically notified of the due fees.

He explained that the facilities prescribed for Egyptians abroad apply to imports from free zones inside Egypt, and are subject to the same procedures prescribed for importing a car from abroad, and the electronic platform provides the possibility of choosing one of the free zones inside Egypt as an import destination, provided that the cash amount due for the value of the car is transferred to the seller’s account from abroad in foreign currency, also more than one person per family is also entitled to benefit from the new facilities for importing cars, as long as the stipulated conditions are met.
He added that if it is difficult to open a bank account or make a cash transfer in any country, it is permissible, after obtaining a documented certificate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to transfer from his bank account in any other country to Egypt, stressing that no import approval will be issued when the cash amount due for the bank deposit that will be transferred fom inside Egypt is managed.
