Trade Facilitation Subcommittee Meeting on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation (2023) issued by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in collaboration with UNCTAD

 The meeting of the Trade Facilitation Sub-committee was held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, headed by Mr. El-Shahat Ghatouri - Commissionier of the Customs Authority and Chairman of the Committee, and in the presence of Ms. Head of the Central Directortiate of the World Trade Organization - Agreements and Foreign Trade Sector at the Ministry of Trade and Industry - and the Vice-Chairman of the Committee, representatives of the following entities participated in the committee’s work:

Customs Authority.
General Authority for Export and Import Control.
National Food Safety Authority.
Ministry of Transport (Alexandria Port Authority - Damietta Port Authority - Maritime Transport Sector - General Authority for Land and Dry Ports)
Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality.
Central Directoritate of Veterinary Quarantine at the Ministry of Agriculture.
Central Directoritate of Agricultural Quarantine at the Ministry of Agriculture.
General Directoritate of Health Quarantine at the Ministry of Health.

 following topics were discussed:
1- Amending the Egyptian notification regarding the implementation of the obligations of the Trade Facilitation Agreement of the World Trade Organization.
2- Reviewing the fifth global survey of the United Nations on facilitating digital and sustainable trade (2023) issued by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in cooperation with UNCTAD, after it was completed by representatives of the member states, for approval by the heads of the states so that it can be sent to UNCTAD.

 The meeting concluded with the following recommendations:
• The Technical Secretariat of the Committee shall prepare the amended notification and transfer the agreed-upon materials from Category (C) to Category (A) and send it to the Secretariat of the World Trade Organization.
• Prepare an action plan including setting time periods for completing the implementation of all materials included in Category (C), in order to adhere to the time periods included in the Egyptian notification, or prepare a notification to extend those periods.
