Dr. Mohamed Moait, Minister of Finance, reviewed the efforts to develop customs capabilities to facilitate the trade movement, including electronic transactions that have witnessed an accelerated growth in the Middle East and North Africa region during the past few years, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic Which imposed restrictions on the movement of traditional trade as well as the new global trend supporting electronic markets as a result of rapid technological developments, explaining that we are keen to open up to all international experiences, and to localize distinguished expertise in supporting and facilitating the movement of e-commerce in Egypt.

The minister stressed that the development of the digital infrastructure for the customs authority, and the standardization and automation of customs procedures through the "Nafeza" system that covers 99.9% of Egyptian imports and exports through 15 logisticsl centers, helps us to enhance the efforts of the digital economy, pointing out that we are committed to doing all We are unable to reduce the time of customs release, by simplifying procedures and relying more on an advanced administration to measure the degree of risk and then expand the green path, in a way that contributes to alleviating the burdens of investment from the business community.

Al -Shahat Gutouri, head of the Customs Authority, said during the workshop "Activation of Mechanisms for Dealing with E -Commerce Cargo" organized by the Customs Authority in cooperation with the project "Trade Development and Export Development in Egypt" funded by the American Agency for International Development, that this workshop comes within the framework of providing a future vision on ways to make the expected progress in the path of developing the customs work system and developing partnerships with express shipping companies to secure the customs authority obtaining advanced cargo information, in order to facilitate trade movement and support the development of the current risk system.

He added that the Customs Authority is working to implement the best international practices in the field of e-commerce, customs risk management mechanisms, and facilitating the exchange of data in advance with “express shipping” companies, which contributes to the rapid processing of customs data while identifying risk areas for each element of the import process.
He explained that we are working to improve the quality of customs services in Egypt in line with local, regional and global economic changes, by sustaining the modernization of the customs work strategy, in a way that meets the requirements for dealing with challenges and developments, taking into account that it coincides with the development and mechanization of the customs system, and providing the appropriate legislative cover, developing human capabilities, and enhancing cooperation with all parties to the customs process.
The workshop was attended by: Rachid Benjelloun, project director of the US Agency for International Development and the Trade and Export Development Project, and a number of experts in the field of e-commerce from American and South Korean customs and representatives of the Egyptian Postal Authority, Express shipping service operators are one of the partners of the customs system.
